Auto Insurance

Getting the right auto insurance for you and your family is one of the most important things you can do as a driver in any state. It is rarely enough to get the state’s minimum requirement, but many drivers have little information about how to get the right amount of coverage without overpaying.

Of course, you also don’t want to get the cheapest insurance available because these discounted prices almost always come at the cost of coverage.

Working with an independent car insurance agency ensures you’re getting a quote that represents the best prices for the most robust auto insurance coverage. It also means you are not paying for coverage you don’t need or failing to get essential coverage you do.

What is Auto Insurance?

Automobile insurance protects drivers and vehicle owners against other drivers and the financial fallout of their actions behind the wheel – depending on the type of car insurance policy you have. While most states require drivers to have a certain amount of auto liability insurance coverage regardless of whether their vehicles are paid off or not, these requirements are minimal and offer little real protection if a major accident occurs.

There are different types of auto insurance that provide various benefits to drivers. Most drivers require more than one type of car insurance protection to have what is considered full coverage. The most basic types of automobile insurance include:

  • Liability. This coverage protects you from the financial responsibilities and legal expenses of defending yourself when an accident causes bodily injuries to others or property damage, including damage to vehicles, fences, buildings, bridges, utility poles, etc.

  • Comprehensive. Provides protection against car theft, falling objects, hail, fires, floods, etc.

  • Collision. Whether you collide with another car, a person, an animal, or a solid object, this is the insurance you’ll need when collision accidents occur.

  • Gap insurance. A type of insurance that covers, at least some of, the difference between what you owe on your vehicle and the actual cash value.

  • Uninsured / underinsured motorist insurance. This policy helps by extending coverage to include property and bodily damage caused by another party that has insufficient or no insurance.

  • Medical payments and/or personal injury protection (PIP). Provides coverage for medical expenses in the aftermath of an accident.

With so many choices, finding the “just right” coverage for your auto insurance needs might seem difficult. Working with an independent insurance agency helps you buy with confidence that you’re getting the best option for your situation and not simply getting the only option that’s available to you.
